Responsibility in Publication Corrections and Retractions

At Un Espacio para la Ciencia (UEPLC), we recognize the importance of maintaining integrity and accuracy in the academic and scientific record. Therefore, clear guidelines are established for the correction and, if necessary, retraction of publications in cases of significant errors or misconduct.

  1. Identification of Errors and Issues: It is the responsibility of authors, readers, and reviewers to be vigilant for possible errors or issues in published articles. If an error or significant problem is identified, it should be promptly communicated to the editors of UEPLC.
  2. Assessment of Error Severity: Once notified, the editors will evaluate the nature and severity of the error. Factors to consider include whether the error affects the validity of the results and conclusions, or if there is evidence of misconduct, such as data manipulation or plagiarism.
  3. Corrections and Amendments: If the identified error does not compromise the overall validity of the work but requires correction, a correction or amendment may be published. This typically involves the publication of a correction note linked to the original article, clarifying and correcting the erroneous information.
  4. Retractions: In more serious cases, where there is evidence of scientific misconduct or where the errors significantly compromise the validity of the work, retraction of the article may be necessary. Retraction involves the formal removal of the article from the academic record. This is done through the publication of a retraction note, explaining the reasons for the retraction and linked to the original article.
  5. Transparency and Accountability: The entire process of correction or retraction must be conducted transparently. The involved authors should be informed at each stage of the process and have the opportunity to respond to concerns. Additionally, corrections and retractions should be clearly identifiable to ensure that readers are informed of the current status of the article.
  6. Prevention and Education: In addition to addressing errors and issues after publication, UEPLC is committed to education and prevention. This includes providing guidance to authors on best practices in research and publication, as well as maintaining robust review and editing systems that minimize the likelihood of errors and misconduct.

By adhering to these principles and processes, Un Espacio para la Ciencia seeks to ensure integrity, accuracy, and accountability in the academic and scientific record, thereby contributing to trust and respect within the scientific community and the general public.
